Considerations to Make While Designing Your Koi Pond
There are many colorful varieties of koi fish, which is why they are popular to bring to many residential and commercial residences. A koi pond can welcome visitors, and it can be great for people in your family or at your business. Many places have a bench by the pond so that people can rest and gather their thoughts. However, before getting too excited, there are a few aspects of the pond to sort out initially before ground can break on the project.
First, you need to decide how big you want the pond to be. Part of the size means looking at how much space in the garden you can reasonably set aside for development of the pond. You also need to think about how many fish you want to bring into the koi pond. Many koi fish can grow up to one meter in length. If you want to have a lot of fish, then you need to ensure the space is big enough to accommodate all of them, so they are not always bumping into each other.
You also need to make sure the pond is kept at a comfortable temperature for the fish. These fish are often exported from Japan, so they are used to a certain climate. You need to make sure the pond has sufficient shading. It is not unheard of for koi fish to suffer sunburns due to prolonged exposure to the sun.
Finally, you want the water in the pond to be at a livable pH level. Normal tap water typically has a pH value of 7. Lower pH values are considered acidic while higher ones are alkaline. Koi fish thrive in water with a pH level of 7.4. You absolutely do not want the water to go over an 8.0 level. You can easily purchase a kit to regularly test the pH level of your koi pond at a store near you.
